When my husband suggested we take a bike ride through Amish country, I actually laughed out loud. Although the thought of seeing this lovely area from a unique angle was intriguing, it had been 30+ years since I’d been on a bicycle. I eventually agreed to go with him and our youngest daughter, and I’m so glad I did! Once I got comfortable being on a bike again, it was an amazing experience.
Holmes County Trail is the first trail in the nation built to allow both Amish buggies and bicyclists (plus walkers/joggers) on the trail at the same time.
The scenery is outstanding, riding past multiple farms, animals, and ponds.
We even came across a scary (but beautiful) hornet nest hanging high in the trees.
There were spots along the way to rest and refuel with a snack before traveling on.
The Holmes County Trail can be accessed at Hipp Station: 62 N Grant St in Millersburg, Ohio. The former rail depot provides restrooms, a playground, and picnic shelter house.
We saw people of all ages exploring the trail, and everyone we came across was very polite and friendly. I hope you will take some time to enjoy it yourself!
Until next time…
❤
