I should have taken this outside for a better photo, but it was easier to leave it in the garage while the final coat dried. I spent the better part of last week making this for my dad as a Father’s Day gift. This is made out of terra cotta flower pots glued together, then painted with both spray paint and outdoor enamel paint. Fairly simple to make, but took a few days to paint. I thought I’d leave the directions here in case any of you want to get creative and make one for yourself. It’s a great summer project and looks so cool lit up in the evenings. I’m going to make another one for myself soon. :)
4 or more terra cotta flower pots (with holes in bottom)
2 cans of spray paint (I used white)
1 small can outdoor paint (I used Rustoleum)
Craft paint for windows/door if desired
Solar light, any kind
* Use silicone and glue pots upside down on each other, then apply several coats of spray paint. It took the entire 2 cans for mine.
* The next day, tape off any parts of the pots that you do not want to paint. (Make sure you use a good painter’s tape so it doesn’t strip the spray paint.) Using a sponge brush for no streaks, paint the rims of the pots in whatever color you desire. Apply a second coat, if needed, after thoroughly dried.
* Paint any doors or windows you’d like using craft paint, then spray several thin coats of clear gloss/sealer over the pots.
* Insert a solar light and you now have a lighthouse. :)
Get creative with this and have fun!
